  1. Use re-usable cups for beverages. Think about how many cups your local coffee shop sells each day? And yes some of these cups can be recycled but that’s far from perfect. Recycling is very energy intensive. The best approach is to bring your own reusable cup.

  2. Carpool when you can. Even if you only carpool once a month, it still makes a small difference and can make a big difference with a lot of people doing the same.

  3. Pick up trash. When you’re out and about, try picking up a little trash. With lots of people on board, a big difference can be made.
    Tip: Keep a small bag in your car for this purpose.

  4. Compost your food scraps and lawn clippings. Lots of things you throw away can be composted to be added to your plants and not dumped into the land fill.

  5. Replace lightbulbs with energy efficient ones. Replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs can make a difference. They do initially cost more but in long run will provide cost savings while making improvements in energy savings.

  6. Make your house more energy efficient. Improvements into windows, insulation, energy efficient appliances, whole house fans and newer HVAC systems can make a big difference into how much energy you consume each year.

    Tips: Keep your condenser coils clean with a refrigerator bristle brush, let your leftovers cool before chilling, and keep your refrigerator and freezer organized to help minimize the time the doors are open.

  10. Maximize the efficiency of your HVAC system. Have your system serviced ~ once a year. Replace your air filter ~ every six months.
